60 years of nuclear turbine island innovation
-
1950s
First nuclear steam turbines developed by Rateau for Marcoule, France, GE for Dresden, USA and English Electric for Hinkley Point, UK.
-
1960s
Brown Boveri & Cie (later ABB) develops 180MW nuclear steam turbine for Brenau, Switzerland, English Electric receives 1200MW turbine order for Enrico Fermi, USA.
English Electric becomes part of GEC.
-
1970s
Rapid expansion in France with orders for 1000MW & 1300MW nuclear turbines. GEC provides 660MW turbines for AGR reactors in UK.
Rateau and Alsthom merge.
-
1980s
Global growth incl. GE steam turbine order for TEPCO Kashiwazaki, Japan and GEC order for Daya Bay China.
GEC and Alsthom create GEC Alsthom (later Alstom).
-
1990s
1,550MW Arabelle turbine starts operation at Chooz, France.
ABB and Alstom JV.
-
2000s
First order of an Arabelle turbine in China, for Ling Ao II power plant & for 1750MW power plant at Flamanville, France.
-
2010s
First order of Alstom full-speed steam turbine for 700MW power plant, at Kakrapar, India.
GE acquires Alstom's power business.
-
2020s
Arabelle turbine with largest last-stage blade delivered for Hinkley Point C. UK.
GE Steam Power Nuclear acquired by EDF and becomes Arabelle Solutions.
Why the name Arabelle Solutions?
The name Arabelle Solutions reflects our heritage, from steam turbine pioneer Auguste Rateau to Belfort in France, where our modern turbines and generators are designed and made as well as the wide range of engineering services we provide for nuclear power turbines around the world.
